Crossfit WoD: Pullups, Kettle Bells, and Burpees

This morning’s 5:30 a.m. Crossfit Central class WoD:

3 rounds for time of:

  • 50 jumping pull ups
  • 15 KB swings (1.5 pood)
  • 9 burpees

My time: 12:26

Jesus H Christ on a popsicle — do I ever need to shed about 50 lbs (at least). Any exercise where I have to move my 260 lb body weight for time just kills me. Even jumping pull ups (which, for me right now, are the only kind I can do anyway).

But trying to jump and pull my chin over a bar 150 times is just brutal at this weight, and really slows me down.

I was dead last in our class this morning out of 10 athletes — and it wasn’t even close. Second to last place was done in about 11:25. First place (Linda, totally kicking ass these days) finished in 7:40-something.

The Kettle Bell swings were not too bad — this was my first time to use the 24KG kettle bell  (53 lbs) for full overhead KB swings (I usually use a 20kg bell [44 lbs], which is what I also have in my garage home gym). I felt pretty strong on these.

My burpees are much, much improved. Still had to break my set of 9 up into 5-4 reps. But, again, they are getting much more efficient.

This is my 6th month of Crossfitting, and while I’m getting stronger and fitter…I’m not losing any weight and the metcon/body weight exercises are still killing me. Hopefully my participation in the 8-week I am Crossfit program, where I’m adding 2-3 more workouts/week and sticking to a strict zone diet will kickstart me to the fat and weight loss that I need.
