Countdown to the BP MS 150: 6 Days

I’m only six days away from riding in another BP MS 150 from Houston to Austin.

Despite having some serious knee problems over the last 2 months, I feel better prepared and stronger for this year’s ride than either of my previous two rides. I attribute my better shape to:

  • CrossFit — I’ve been CrossFitting since last August, and my increases in strength, flexibility, stamina, overall fitness, and mental toughness are directly attributable to the “forging elite fitness” goals of CrossFit. Much thanks and credit goes to my coach, Zach Theil at CrossFit Central.
  • Training — I’ve put in a lot more miles on the bike this year than I did in both of my previous years combined. I didn’t buy my bike until late last year, only getting to ride it 5 times (and never longer than 9.3 miles) before the MS 150. This year I’ve done a bunch of rides over 20 miles and feel stronger and faster in the saddle than I ever have.
  • The Zone — As part of the I am CrossFit Challenge I started at the beginning of the year, I started paying more attention to how and what I was eating. I started zoning my meals, and have lost 25 lbs since Jan 1, which puts me at 20 lbs lighter than I was at this time last year. If you’re looking for a diet that is sustainable for life and really burns away fat, than give the Zone a try.

Fighting Multiple Sclerosis

All of the 1300K riders participating in the BP MS 150 next weekend have pledged to raise at least $400 in donations for the Texas Chapter of the MS Society. Thanks to my wonderful friends and family, I have already exceeded that minimum donation.

But the more money we can raise the more people battling this debilitating disease we can help. So I’m making a final donation push in the final week to meet my goal of raising $1000.

I know the economy is tough right now and a lot of you are tightening belts and making cut backs. If that’s you, don’t worry — your prayers and thoughts next weekend will be just as appreciated.
